Yamasaki Hachiman-gu Shrine Autumn Festival

The Honyama Shrine Ritual, designated as a Prefectural Cultural Property, was originally distinct from autumn harvest festivals expressing gratitude for bountiful crops. It was a ritual to prevent bird damage and natural disasters after the rice ears ripened and to pray for a good harvest. However, it is now performed as part of the district's autumn festival. The festival floats associated with this ritual originated when Lord Mototsugu Mōri of the Tokuyama domain established a new horse racing ground to pray for abundant harvests and dedicated the Motoyama and Jijibayama floats. The assembly of these floats preserves ancient traditions: not a single nail is used, with approximately 450 kilograms of vine used for binding, and the wheels are made from cross-sections of pine logs. During the Autumn Grand Festival period, night stalls line the streets, creating a lively atmosphere. Scheduled for late September.
