The bush clover at Kairakuen is said to have been transplanted from the Sendai Domain in 1842 (Tenpō 13) by Tokugawa Nariaki, the ninth lord of the Mito Domain, and planted when the garden was established. Around 750 bushes—including white bush clover, mountain bush clover, and round-leaf bush clover—bloom in profusion, letting visitors savor the ambience of autumn.
