This museum introduces Kutani porcelain and its history from the early period to modern times. Kutani porcelain was born in the early Edo period in Kutani village of Daishōji fief of Kaga province. There was a period when the production stopped, but it was revived in the late Edo period and lives till nowadays. Throughout this time, a lot of makers honed the techniques, and a lot of outstanding works were made. There are a lot of famous works, appraised both in Japan and abroad. Nomi city is a place where the Kutani industry was founded in the Meiji period. True to the name of the place of production, the museum periodically holds special exhibitions.
