Notes & Remarks
This building was constructed in 1921 as the Nishijin Branch Office of the Kyoto Central Telephone Bureau (the third telephone station in Kyoto). Designer Lu Iwamoto, an engineer at the Ministry of Communications, is a genius architect who pursued the artistry of architecture in the Taisho era, the dawn of modern Japanese architecture, and left only three works. This building is also the only existing building of his existence and is highly valued culturally and academically. ・ Designated as a tangible cultural property registered in Kyoto City in June 1985 ・ Registered tangible cultural property registered by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Ministry of Education at that time) July 15, 1997 ・ Designated as a National Important Cultural Property on July 5, 2006
