Suwa-jinja Shrine Votive Fireworks Festival (Enshu Araitetsutsu Fireworks)

A festival has been held at Suwajinja Shrine since the late 17th century and the traditional skills, musical accompaniment,and other elements have been passed down to the present day. As a festival for the townspeople,it is a kind of Shinto ritual held in the traditional way. Amidst the noise of flutes, drums, and conches, dozens of hand-held fireworks are let off at once—a stunning scene unique to Arai unlike any other elsewhere.
