Approximately 700 meters in length, "the Way of History and Literature" is a route between the ruins of Otemon Gate to Yoken-ji Temple selected in 1986 for the 100 Best Roads in Japan. Townscape here is very reminiscent of the old days in the Saiki castle town - with its original stone pavement, sections of white walls revealing the mud wall primer, and a number of traditional samurai residential buildings still in place. Cherry blossoms come into beautiful full bloom just in time for the annual spring festival held here in April. With contrasting colors of pink cherry flowers with blue sky and white walls in the backdrop, the townscape during this season is something to be seen.
