Kokuzo yuzu fruit Kokuzo yuzu, produced mainly in the Kokuzo district in the mountainous central region of Nomi, is a local specialty. The full-scale production began in 1986, and it is grown with great care using organic fertilizers and no agricultural chemicals. The center of production called Yuzu Danchi has approximately 700 trees on an area of about 1.5 ha. There are two varieties: the common “Kito” (with seeds) and the smaller, seedless “Tada Nishiki". The harvest season is from late October to late November. Every year on a holiday in early November, the “Kokuzo Yuzu Festival,” a direct sales event, is held. Here farmers sell yuzu while interacting amicably with visitors. After the event, the fruit leftovers are turned into juice and sold in that form.
