Okuizumo is the setting for the "Yamata no Orochi" (Eight-Forked Serpent) myth recounted in the *Kojiki* and *Nihon Shoki*.
The "Sajiro" area, in particular, is home to numerous sites associated with these legends, including the "Choja Yashiki" (Wealthy Man's Mansion)—where Kushinada-hime (who married Susanoo-no-Mikoto) lived with her parents, Ashinazuchi and Tenazuchi—as well as "Kagami-ga-Ike" (Mirror Pond), "Motoyui-kake-matsu" (Hair-Tie Hanging Pine), and "Yaegaki Shrine."
The facility features a skin-friendly, highly alkaline simple hot spring (pH 9.8), offering water quality that is exceptional for beautifying the skin and relieving fatigue.
Surrounded by the seasonal nature of Okuizumo, the rock baths and open-air baths utilize stones from the Hii River—a legendary waterway now submerged beneath the waters of the Obara Dam. The water is heated using wood chips, providing a gentle warmth that evokes the romance of ancient times, creating a mystical bathing experience that heals both body and soul.
