Ikegami, along with the Otomeyama, has for long been recognized as a classic scallop-shaped tumulus. Including the outer trench, it measures 130m in length, a very large scallop-shaped kofun. The tumulus is constructed on three levels; the lower base of the rear circular part, the terraced part, and the top section. Cylindrical Haniwa figures have been discovered lined in rows here. On the slopes of the mound there are stones ranging in size from a person’s head to pebbles you could hold in your hand. Whereas there are no stones in the rear circular lower base area, around the base to the front area there are stones. The stones are thought to have been carried here from the slopes around Nijōsan. Considering the Haniwa cylinders, the kofun is regarded as having been constructed about the early middle part of the Kofun Period.
