Autumn leaves at Todategaoka Historical Park

Tojo Historical Park is the park that includes Tojo-tei House, a nationally designated Important Cultural Property; Tojo-tei Garden, a nationally designated scenic spot; Tojo Museum of History which exhibits ancestral artifacts from the House of Tokugawa in Matsudo, and it has been selected as one of the ”100 Historical Parks of Japan,”. Tojo-tei House was the residence of Tokugawa Akitake, who was the last lord of the Mito Domain and the younger brother of Tokugawa Yoshinobu, the last shogun of the Edo shogunate. Akitake lived there after the start of the Meiji era. The residence has been designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, because it is a valuable example of upper-class Japanese-style architecture from the Meiji period. Inside the park grounds, visitors can enjoy a variety of seasonal plants, with the large ginkgo and Iroha maple trees displaying beautiful colors during the autumn foliage season.
