The Mitsuyoshi Ishizuka tumulus, sited among the central mounds in the Umami Kofun group, is a hotategaishiki tumulus (literally ‘scallop-shaped’). It has been modelled to look as it was when constructed. Standing on top, you’re surrounded by the scent of sweet osmanthus and a breeze which could transport you back 1,500 years to Manyō times, and memories of those days.
