This is a unique museum that provides visitors with an understanding of the history of civil engineering and flood control, with the oldest dammed reservoir in Japan as its main attraction. Sayama Pond, built in the Asuka Period (early 7th century), is the oldest dam-type reservoir in Japan with a history of 1,400 years. It is still in use today as the largest dam in Osaka Prefecture, with a water storage capacity of 2.8 million cubic meters. Many important historical figures, including Gyoki of the Nara period, Chogen of the Kamakura period, and Katagiri Katsumoto of the Edo period, are said to have been involved in its renovation in the past. Osaka Prefectural Sayamaike Museum, which opened in 2001 in Osakasayama City, Osaka Prefecture, introduces the history of civil engineering and flood control in Japan by preserving and exhibiting the actual construction methods and embankments of Sayama Pond in seven zones, according to period. The museum also serves as a research institute for the history of land development in East Asia by collecting and exhibiting materials and information related to land development in the region. The facility also hosts special exhibitions, workshops, and concerts from time to time. The innovative design of the building was designed by Tadao Ando, one of Japan's leading architects. 【Fare】 Free
