It is said that on the evening of June 11, 1837 (lunar calendar. It is said that on the evening of June 11, 1837, (the lunar calendar, July 13 in the Western calendar) the Yonatsu meteorite fell in Tominaga Village, Kambara County (present-day Tominaga, Tsubame City). People were surprised and afraid of the meteorite's fall, but sometimes people made a spectacle of it on festival days, or shaved it off and drank it, thinking it would be good for medicine. The meteorite was kept in Tominaga Village for a long time, but in 1899, it was exhibited at the Imperial Museum. At that time, the meteorite was called “Yonatsu Meteorite” after the name of the village at that time, and became widely known. The meteorite weighs 31.65 kg, making it the third heaviest single meteorite in Japan. The Yonenatsushi Meteorite is currently on display at the National Museum of Nature and Science in Tokyo, but in Tsubame City, a replica of the meteorite can be seen at the Chozenkan Archives, and there is a monument at the site where the meteorite fell.
