It is said that on the evening of June 11, 1837 (lunar calendar. It is said that the Yonozu meteorite fell in Tominaga Village, Kambara County (present-day Tominaga, Tsubame City) on the evening of June 11, 1837 (the lunar calendar, July 13 in the western calendar).
People were surprised and afraid of the falling meteorite, but sometimes they made a spectacle of it on festival days, or shaved it off and drank it, thinking it would be medicinal.
The meteorite was kept in Tominaga Village for a long time, but was exhibited at the Imperial Museum in 1899.
At that time, it was called “Yonozu Meteorite” after the name of the village at that time, and became widely known.
T The meteorite weighs 31.65 kg, making it the third heaviest valuable meteorite in Japan.
The Yonozu meteorite is currently on display at the National Museum of Science in Tokyo, but in Tsubame City, a replica of the meteorite can be seen at the Tyouzennkann Archives, and there is a monument at the site where it fell.
